I spent some time the other day training a client on how to create blog posts on their shiny new blog / web site that we recently launched for them. Training clients on this part of the process is something I really enjoy because they get so excited to see how the back end of WordPress works, and to see, first hand, how simple it is to start blogging. It really empowers them.
The other thing it reminded me of is how little others know about blogging fundamentals. Anyone that has worked in a particular industry for a considerable amount of time doesn’t realize how much he or she knows about it unless they speak to someone about their work who knows nothing about it. I’m always learning from those who have been web marketing longer than me. Those people that I have deemed the “gold standard” in the online brand-building world, my online mentors.
The good thing about my gold standard list is it pushes me to be better and provide higher quality work for my clients. As an aside, it’s great to identify your mentors – online or offline – because it will help you stay on top of your game.
But back to the blog training. Throughout the training call I mentioned the importance of optimizing your content for search engines (SEO). There are things a blogger can do on the front end, consistently and creatively with their blog content. And, things your web builder can do on the back end, which you won’t notice or see. Combining SEO techniques on the front and back end of your WordPress site are the best way to get recognized and rank on Google over time.
I shared a great blog post with my client entitled, “SEO Copywriting the 5 Essential Elements to Focus On,” by Brian Clark on Copyblogger Media. And I’m writing this post to share it with you too.
It can be overwhelming when you start blogging – so much to learn, so little time. Do you have any questions about your own blogging attempts? Drop me an email or submit a comment to this post.
Would love to hear from you and help you make the web work for you.
