If you’re the owner of a business… isn’t every day CEO day? – Not exactly.
Whether you run a service-based, digital-product, or e-commerce business, then your time typically is divided between your clients and the growth of your own business. Creating a designated CEO each week or month will help you to not lose sight of your WHY and keep you on track of your goals.
But what exactly is involved in a CEO day?
CEO Day – Unraveled
CEO days can be broken down into two parts – “internal” tasks and “focus on you” tasks.
Internal tasks are designated tasks and scheduled blocks in your schedule to focus on your own business.
These could be things like…
Bookkeeping + Budgeting → It can be easy to neglect your finances when you’re wrapped up with clients and customers, but designating your CEO to keep up with the numbers will save you a lot of time come tax time and give you a ton of peace of mind.
Creating New Ideas → Taking the time to go through your notes and random sticky notes filled with ideas is helpful to keep up with what you aim to do and adding it to a project management system, so it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle of your everyday life.
Planning + Taking Action on Projects → The projects you’ve been slowly working away on need more than just a “get to it when I get to it.” They need a plan of action where you put aside your client work and solely focus on putting things in motion. These could be things like updating/creating your website, writing blog posts, building an email list, or optimizing your marketing content.
Digital Cleanup → You’ve got a million downloads and thousands of emails floating around your drive and inbox. Taking some time to organize your internal folders and inboxes will not only help keep organized but spark new ideas and find old ones you completely forgot about. Plus… it’s always a good idea to implement the resources you already have hiding away.
Focus on you tasks are designed to take a step outside of your own business to soak up things that fill you up.
These things could include…
Selfcare → Yes, I’m talking about booking that massage or day at the spa. Dedicating an entire day to just rest and relaxation with a good book or podcast.
Learning → Whether you’ve been putting off a self-development book or course of some sort it’s always a good idea to improve your skills and abilities, so you can bring a stronger self to you and your clients. As an entrepreneur, you never stop learning and growing. That’s something we should all value, so dedicating time to it will only help you in the long run.
Hitting personal goals → Goals reach far beyond just business. It’s important to reassess your own personal goals whether that’s in fitness, volunteering, eating habits, etc.
CEO days are meant to be what YOU want and NEED them to be. Whatever helps you perform at your best and feel your best is going to work for you.
Does it have to be a day?
If you find that dedicating an entire day to your own business doesn’t work for you… don’t do it.
If you find it easier to dedicate a couple of hours every day to yourself and business, do it. That’s the beauty of being a business owner. You call the shots. But forgetting about you and your business altogether is where you can do wrong.
Having dedicated periods for yourself will help you avoid burnout and give you clear direction on your business goals and vision, so don’t lose sight of where you want to go.
How CEO days will help you manage your time
Implementing a CEO day in your business will help you get more time in less time. Think about it… how many times have you been working with clients or on projects for clients and think to yourself, “I wish I was working on my own business.”
Those feelings of dread only hinder you from effectively completing the task at hand and in a timely manner which only takes you further away from what you want to do which is working on your own business.
When you have a designated time for YOU and your business, it will help optimize the time you spend working with clients. With your why at the forefront of your mind, you will be able to get more done in less time. That’s that power of adding CEO days into your week.
