In light of all the changes we’re going through due to the upheaval of COVID-19, it can leave many businesses owners feeling like their way of working has been cut off at the knees.
Yet it doesn’t have to be that way. There are many businesses who have a traditional model of working with clients in-person that can transition to an online approach.
One of the clients we’re working with now at brandiD is a great example of this.
Our client’s name is Connie, and she’s become somewhat of a legend among our brandiD team—not just because she’s an absolute force of nature, but also because she’s so bold and brave about how she’s transitioning her business to run online.
You see, Connie is a couples therapist and for over 30 years she’s worked with clients in-person in her office, as couples therapists are known to do.
When Connie began working with us at the beginning of this year she was interested in exploring ways to grow an online presence. Her website was over a decade old and it was time to dust it off and update it. Her plan was to continue seeing clients in-person, of course, but Connie wanted to expand her audience and tap into the bigger world that exists through the internet.
Connie had already developed a full-day workshop she was running in her hometown of Bellingham, WA, and at first she saw the potential to record the workshop and sell it as a product on her website.
But then, with a little strategy direction from our team at brandiD, Connie started to have one lightbulb moment after another. Yes, she could sell the recording of her workshop, but she could ALSO…
…reformat the content from that workshop into a 5-week course where she provides live personalized support.
…create a membership site for past and current clients, or those who have completed Connie’s workshop and/or course, where she offers content, resources, and personalized support each month.
…create products (either free or at varying price points) where she provides tips and guidance about how couples can stay strong during times of stress like the Coronavirus pandemic, or breathe new life into their relationship, as well as navigate common sources of conflict.
Suddenly, Connie’s possibilities for taking her business online seemed endless!
One of the coolest parts of Connie’s story is…she’s NOT a high-tech person. When she knocked on our (virtual) door and became our client, she had very limited knowledge about the online arena in general, least of which was running an online business.
But what Connie DID have (in spades!) was an ability to see herself in a new light—as an online business owner, not just as an in-office therapist—as well as a willingness to try new things.
So far, Connie’s researched online platforms and tools, and called on online support when she needed to troubleshoot tech problems such as getting her ActiveCampaign email funnel tweaked.
She even ran an online pilot course to test out how her content translated to an online setting, and boldly showed up to deliver it, even though everything felt new and out of her comfort zone. She’s even created a free download, weekly e-newsletter, and Facebook group to help her audience deal with the stress of COVID-19 called “Cohabitating with Covid.”
Connie is the PERFECT example that no matter what your business is, if there’s a will to take it online, there’s a way. You just need to be open to new possibilities, think creatively about how to deliver your offering online, and then have the guts to test it out.
In these times of COVID-19 when the normal structure of so many businesses have been altered or completely changed, the chances are likely you CAN adapt your business to run online.
